Beneath the Jordan’s gentle flow,
The Savior stooped, His heart aglow,
To John He spoke with tender plea,
“Let it be so, this task for Me.”
No sin to wash, no guilt to bear,
Yet humbly bowed in waters there,
The sinless One, God’s holy Lamb,
Fulfilled the will of I AM.
The heavens watched, the Spirit came,
A dove descending, soft as flame,
The Father’s voice in thunder rolled,
“My Son, beloved, I behold.”
What lesson gleams in waves so still?
Obedience bends to heaven’s will,
The King of glory, meek and low,
Showed righteousness for all to know.
So follow Him, ye saints, arise,
With hearts baptized beneath the skies,
For in His steps, the path is sure,
A life made holy, cleansed, and pure.
