The Image of God

  • The Image of God

In boundless deep, where silence sings,

A thought took flight on unseen wings,

The image of God, a seed, a gleam,

Awoke the void with living dream.

Not bound by clay, nor chained to skies,

It dances free where wonder lies,

    A prism vast, refracting light,

Through endless day, through endless night.

In every leaf, the pattern shows,

In rivers wild, where water flows,

The fractal grace of root and stone,

Bears witness to a will unknown.

The sparrow’s arc, the lion’s roar,

Each pulse of life, an open door,

    A gallery of forms divine,

Where mortal threads and stars align.

And we, the restless, seeking kind,

With fractured hearts and searching mind,

We bear the mark, both gift and weight,

A bridge between the small and great.

In laughter’s ring, in tears that fall,

In hands that lift, in voices call,

The image glows, though dimmed by strife,

A shadowed spark of boundless life.

Yet what is this, this sacred trace?

    A kingly crown, a beggar’s face?

    A paradox in flesh arrayed,

    Eternal truth in time displayed.

For God, unseen, beyond all scope,

Wove love as warp, and us as hope,

To bear the image, frail yet strong,

A whispered note in heaven’s song.

Through galaxies that twist and bend,

Through births that start, through deaths that end,

    The imprint holds, unshaken still,

A mystery bent to holy will.

Not ours to grasp, nor fully know,

But in its light, we stretch and grow,

Reflections of the One who sees,

A chorus vast of “let there be.”

So look within, and look afar,

From dust to soul, from star to star,

The image of God, a timeless flame,

Unites the all in one great name.
