Berean Standard Bible
The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together, against the LORD and against His Anointed One:
I write to you in the name of our Lord and Savior, whose wisdom surpasses all understanding and whose sovereign hand guides the affairs of nations and peoples. May this message find you walking steadfastly in the light of His truth, with hearts strengthened and spirits emboldened by His unwavering love.
As I reflect upon the words of Psalm 2:2, "The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed" (ESV), I am reminded of the timeless relevance of this sacred truth. The defiance of earthly powers against the authority of our Sovereign God and His Christ is not a mere historical footnote, but a recurring thread in the tapestry of human history—a thread that continues to weave through the fabric of our present age.
Even now, we witness rulers and leaders, both great and small, who conspire in vain against the Lord’s decrees. They reject His authority, seeking to establish their own dominion apart from His righteous rule. They wield power as though it were their own to claim, forgetting that all authority is ultimately derived from the One who sits enthroned above the heavens. In their rebellion, they fail to grasp the futility of their endeavors, for as the psalmist declares, "He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision" (Psalm 2:4, ESV). What are the plans of men compared to the purposes of God?
Beloved, let us not be dismayed by the tumultuous schemes of the nations or the prideful aspirations of earthly kings. Rather, let us turn our hearts to the Anointed One, the Messiah, who is the fulfillment of all the promises of God. For in Christ Jesus, the King of kings, we find the assurance that no rebellion, no opposition, can thwart the divine will. The Lord has declared, "As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill" (Psalm 2:6, ESV)—a declaration that resonates with eternal authority.
And so, I urge you, my brothers and sisters, to take refuge in Him who is our rock and our salvation. Let us be unwavering in our allegiance to the King of glory, standing firm as witnesses to His truth in a world that often rejects His lordship. Be vigilant in prayer, steadfast in love, and bold in proclaiming the gospel, for the days are evil and the fields are ripe for harvest.
As we labor in the vineyard of the Lord, let us also heed the call to serve as instruments of His peace and ambassadors of His kingdom. For though the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain, the kingdom of God is advancing, and His glory will one day cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.
May we take comfort in the promise that the Son will inherit the nations, and may our hearts be filled with reverence as we approach Him with the humility and awe befitting those who bow before the sovereign Lord. As the psalmist exhorts, "Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way" (Psalm 2:11-12, ESV).
Let us, therefore, rejoice in the knowledge that blessed are all who take refuge in Him. He is our hope, our strength, and our joy. To Him be the glory, now and forevermore.
