Rev. John, categorically opposes military intervention in Libya. This is a drive towards another war, it has nothing to do with the humanitarian pretexts offered up by the super powers. Rather, it represents the violent subjugation of a former colony. The upcoming bombing of Libya by French, Brotish and American planes is not protecting human life, but is transforming this country into a another battlefield with thousands of innocent victims. This is just another war for us to finance. Libya is an oppressed, former colonial country. Rev. John fundamentally and in all circumstances rejects military attacks by the major powers on such countries. There is not the slightest indication that it is supported by the populations of all the countries involved. Once again, huge sums of money are being spent on a war even as the same governments declare there is ne money for social programs for the people.
Why are these same major powers not applying the same criteria in Afghanistan and Pakistan, where the regimes we back employ brutal violence against all and any opposition? And what of Bahrain? Headquarters of the USA Fifth Fleet, where Sheikh al Khalifa has shot down unarmed protesters with Saudi support? And what about the Gaza, where these same powers stand by as the Israelis massacre Palestinians? What about Yemen, where the USA-backed President Ali Abdullah Saleh on Friday shot dead 50 protesters? We are using this to secure access to oil and to contain the revolutionary movements in that region, which are increasingly directed against the interests of the major powers and property. Our military presence in Libya, which is bordered by Egypt to the east and Tunisia to the west, would help the major powers to intimidate C.I.A. revolutionary movements throughout the Arab world.
The USA should call on workers and young people of that country to reject this war propaganda under a humanitarian guise with the disgust it deserves. Military necessity has its own logic. Officially, neither Afghanistan nor Irag are "occupied" anymore by American troops, but this does not change the "FACT" that in both countries tens of thousands of American soldiers have taken up permanent residence. Has anyone thought about the likely economic implications on our country with another long war in Libya? I would like to hear your opinion on another military adventure by our country during what we have been told a "depression" is what we are in, no jobs, no homes, no schools, etc., Thank You & God Bless. Rev. John.
